Where to stay near Girraween

Prioritise official Queensland Parks camping when that product fits — mornings become walks, not hotel drives. Book online in advance; you cannot pay on site. When you want a commercial bed, match the town to tomorrow’s trailhead: Stanthorpe for services, Tenterfield from NSW, Wallangarra for Mount Norman Road, Ballandean for wine-strip evenings.

Some stay, tour and gear links may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Park entry fees and official Queensland Parks camping bookings are never affiliated.

Fuel, food, medical — pick the town that matches tomorrow’s start

Families

Stanthorpe for shops, hospital and a wet-weather bed. Official camp if you booked and want toilets near Bald Rock Creek. Tenterfield if you are arriving from NSW.

Early starts

Sleep in Stanthorpe, an official camp, or Wallangarra if tomorrow is Mount Norman day-use. Fill fuel the night before. A Brisbane bed does not make a dawn Pyramid a short hop.

Closest to the icon

Official Castle Rock camping (~300 m from the visitor building) for The Pyramid and Castle Rock. Wallangarra / Tenterfield for the southern gravel start. Ballandean if the evening is wine-strip, not a second summit.

Medical & official camping

Nearest hospital: Stanthorpe. Park camping is official-only (never affiliated). More on Plan your visit · services.

Match the town to tomorrow’s trailhead. Stanthorpe does not put you on Mount Norman Road without a separate drive.
